In several Latin American countries, the participation of women in the media as a news subject has reached an average of 26%. Television is where women are most represented (28%) and radio is where they are least represented (22%). The news topic of equality occupies 7% of the total news agenda.
GMMP found a small global increase in the number of women as news subjects over time, from 17% in 1995 to 24% in 2015. The largest rise of women as news subjects is seen in Latin America (13% increase from 1995 to 2015).
One in four women in Brazil said that positive female role models in the media gave them courage to leave an abusive relationship.
